AU Meme: Sif/Loki; pre-Thor

Long had he watched her from afar, the proud maiden of Asgard, beloved daughter of the realm, a shining beacon that pierced the swirling dark clouds of his thoughts. To the God of Mischief, the Lady Sif was an image of loveliness, of perfection, of glory; everything that Loki craved to possess.
And like everything he loved, he destroyed.
He wanted to own her, possess her, break her; somehow it would be gratifying to see her kneel and beg for his mercy. To strip her pride away from her and humble her to the bones. To see sorrow and regret, yes, regret, touch her stern features for once. And Loki’s own would soften. He would go to her with a kind embrace, help her to her feet and whisper into her hair that everything would be alright, he would protect her.
Sif had always been aware of the gleaming pair of eyes that followed her every move when he thought she wasn’t looking. To her, it seemed always that he dwelt in the shadows, even when he was out in the bright daylight. Darkness crowned his thoughts and movements; she could see it through every dart of his eyes, every twitch of his lips, and every flex of his graceful hands whenever he was anxious.
Did Loki actually… love her? Sif could not tell.
But there was yearning in his eyes; the same yearning that showed every time he watched his father show affection to his brother. The Allfather claimed that he loved his children equally, but to Loki, it would always, always be Thor that he loved best. It would be to Thor that Odin would place his confidence, not Loki. No, never Loki. Sif had always known this. And to imagine that he felt for her the same way he had felt for Thor: that overwhelming desire to possess and destroy…
It frightened her.
